- MDAC Corruptions:
- Access ADPs: lose connectivity to SQL Server.
- UDL's: (universal data links) stop working.
- Repair: Re-install Mdac.inf
An MDAC corruption can occur during an uninstall. Suddenly data access problems
pop up a la ADP connection & UDL failures.
There may be a plethora of problems caused by an MDAC corruption. When
I experienced an MDAC corruption, I stopped looking for symptoms after
ADP's & UDL's failed.
Access Data Projects (ADP's) connect to
SQL Server 2000 (SQL Server 2005 ADP's still don't work as of 12/2007). Universal data links
(UDL's) allow a developer to set database links external from code, so a recompile is
not needed when an application shifts between dev/test data, developer staging workstations,
and production.
Neither ADP's nor UDL's will work if MDAC get corrupted. After digging around some,
Experts Exchange has some good links, I found that re-installing the MDAC.inf file fixed
both ADP's & UDL's.
