MXQ Adv. Sudoku

8 Cell Swordfish

Arrow Expand/Collapse Menu

The Row & Column Pairs forms assist in identifying swordfish patterns. In the example below, the Row Pairs form highlights an 8 cell swordfish pattern, see rectangle. In this case 3 rows have been highlighted as having 2 or 3 cells aligned by columns. In sudoku parlance, a 5 can only occur in the swordfish pattern row-columns, D, F & G at columns 1, 4 & 6. This means all other 5's in those columns can be removed: A4, A6, B6, C4 & C6.

After clearing the target digit, the 5 numeric button needs to be clicked again to refresh the Row Pairs for further inspection.
